Tax Rebate Check Information

The US government has started sending out the economic stimulus payment checks since May. This will be sent to more than 130 million people across the country. Most Americans, who are eligible for an economic stimulus payment, will need to file their 2007 tax return. There are no applications to fill.

The IRS releases the payment, and it is automatic. The eligibility and the amount are determined by the IRS. The stimulus tax rebates are a direct deposit in the bank account.

People who have already filed their tax do not need to do anything as the amount will be directly deposited into their accounts.

People who have no tax liability could also qualify for a payment of $300 and if they have filed for joint returns then they could be receiving $600. However, it is very important to file tax returns in order to receive the rebate. In order to qualify for the rebate, the income should be earned, wages or self employment.

People who come under the low income group but still earn above $3000 and do not fall under the filing category can still submit a tax return. They may not receive any payment, but they need not pay any tax on the income they have earned.

The eligibility for people to be a part of a stimulus package is that they should have valid social security number, they should be a tax payer and they need to file their tax returns. People who are married and filing jointly should still provide their individual ITIN or SSN. The eligibility for payment is also dependent on maximum income limits. The payments are reduced for people who earn more than $75,000 per annum by 5 percent. If filing jointly, then the maximum limit is $150,000.
