Starting A Career In Real Estate Appraisal

The best part about the real estate industry is that it offers many different types of career opportunities. One such opportunity is that of a real estate appraiser.


        A real estate appraisal can have an impact on the amount of loan that a borrower gets from the lender as it helps to determine the market value of a home. Therefore, it can be said that indirectly a real estate appraisal can have a profound effect on a particular neighborhood.

If you are interested in starting a career in real estate appraisal, you should check the requirements laid down by your state for becoming an appraiser. Different states have different requirements. Some states want the appraiser to have a college degree, while others are content if the appraiser has the required work experience and formal training. But one thing is for sure that in order to become an appraiser, you would need to get a license from your state and have the necessary formal training to get that license.

Based on the information available from the Appraisal Institute, in order to start a career in real estate appraisal, you should think about getting a liberal arts education. Even having a good understanding and knowledge of economics, engineering, law, finance and architecture is helpful. However, you would have to check with your state the requirements to get a license to become an appraiser.

Once you take the necessary classes offered by a state approved institute, you can sit for the state exam. On passing the exam, you can apply for a license. However, depending on the regulations and requirements of the state, you might have to first work for national appraisal management company. You can also work for a bank or an insurance company as many of these organizations have their own appraisal departments to conduct independent appraisals.
