What Is Required To Become A Real Estate Broker ?

If you want to become a real estate broker, it is important to have not just the experience of working in the real estate industry, but also have formal training. In addition, you should have the knowledge about the legalities, rules and norms of the city or town you are working in.


However, if you have no formal training or experience in working in the real estate industry, in order to become a real estate broker, you should be willing to first study for a few years to the broker exam that is mandatory in many states across the US.

The best way to become a real estate broker is to first become a real estate agent. The qualifications required to become a real estate agent is the same as what you would need to become a broker. Also, by becoming an agent, you will be able to get at least part of the training requirement that exists in your city or town besides giving you hands-on experience in the trade.

Usually a person is required to work in the real estate industry for a period of three to five years before he can become a broker. During this time, you can attend classes and take the exam to get your broker license. Usually you would have to attend 90 hours of classes along with hands-on experience in the industry. It is only then you would be allowed to sit for the broker exam.

In some cities and towns, in order to become a broker, a person may have to take more than one exam. Therefore, it is best to check this beforehand rather than getting disappointed later. You can this information from the real estate department of your state. Also, find out which are the approved agencies and institutes that you can attend for the classes.

Once you have passed the broker exam, you would need to apply for a license. In order to get the license, you would have to fill out an application form and submit it along with the proof of your qualifications and an application fee. Once you get the license, you can work as a real estate broker.
