To know if you are eligible for grants, contact the higher education department of the State. They have a financial aid office and can identify sources that will pay the grants. There are several social organizations and trusts that pay student grants. These grants are meant to be used in different areas of study. Grants that are meant to pay off student loans are also called Loan Forgiveness Program.
An organization called “The National Association of State Student Grant and Aid Program” or NASSGAP has been established in all the 50 States of the United States. The grant programs under these can offer anything from $400 to $4,050. The amount is based on performance and the number of credits the student receives in each semester. Everything is reviewed by the adviser, including the parent’s income, financial status of the student and the summer jobs he worked on.
Some minorities, like Native Americans are offered special grants for paying off the debts. However, the condition for all grants is that the loans should have been taken for educational purposes only. So using grants for paying student loans gives a lot of relief from financial stress.
